Last.fm and Gangverk Net Bronze Lovie Award for Best Use of Visualization with Last.fm’s 2023 Playback Experience

Last month we announced that Last.fm and Gangverk were finalists for the prestigious Lovie Awards; the most prestigious, and the only, truly pan-European awards recognizing European Internet excellence in the fields of culture, technology, and business. With public voting complete, we’re ecstatic to announce that our work on the Last.fm 2023 Playback Experience has earned a Bronze Lovie Award in the “Best Use of Data Visualization” category for Websites & Mobile Sites. This award celebrates our work bringing music streaming data to life in an interactive and user-centric experience, allowing fans to see and engage with their unique listening habits in fresh, personalized ways. Our team attended the 14th Annual Lovie Awards Winner Celebration in London and it was amazing to meet so many talented people and join the Lovie community.

“We’re honored to be recognized among Europe’s standout digital projects for design, storytelling, and functionality,” said Ingvi Gudmundsson, Head of Design at Gangverk. “For the Last.fm Playback Experience, we were tasked with not only serving up data but enhancing the pleasure of discovering, experiencing, and sharing music. Our Bronze award is a testament to the way that a well executed data visualization can inform as well as bring excitement and even joy.”

Each detail of this experience was meticulously designed with the listener in mind, from the visually striking interface to the ease with which users can explore their year in music. The Playback Experience gave users a vibrant way to reflect on their musical journey throughout the year. By transforming data into an interactive, shareable narrative, we were able to strengthen the connection between users and the music they love, while also reinforcing Last.fm’s brand identity as a pioneering force in music discovery.

“It’s a privilege to be a Lovie Awards winner, which highlights our unique history in music data. Last.fm has helped fans relive their music journeys for over two decades, tracking their listening habits, and even see where they stand within a global community of listeners. Working with Gangverk has brought new energy, ideas, and engagement to Playback, and we're excited about some great new features coming up. This award is a celebration of where we've been and a boost for where we're going. We're here to keep music discovery personal and meaningful,” said Michael Horan, VP of Product at Last.fm.

Our teams are honored and inspired by this award. It fuels our dedication to creating memorable digital experiences that engage and resonate with audiences. Working together on such an innovative project has been both exciting and rewarding, pushing us to think creatively about how data can deepen user connection. We are looking forward to more projects that continue to shape the digital landscape, where data and design come together to tell stories that matter.
